I’m just a little pissed off right now. I worked my usual weekend shift, Saturday and Sunday 6am to 10pm.
All was going well until 9:30pm last night…when three staff decided to call out. Left us scrambling as to how we’re going to cover 3rd shift.

In my state nursing staff cannot work more than 16 hours in a row; that leaves things a little wild on the weekends cause we all work that amount of hours. The overnight staff only work 8 hour shifts. When things get extreme like this, my employer has a policy of mandating us to work. We have no choice. Course they have to figure out a way to get around that 16 hour rule…

It was my turn to be forced to work over. What they did was get me a room over in staff housing-literally just a little room with a bed and dresser. Shared bathrooms…yuck. So at 10pm I punched out, went to crash for 4 hours and came back to the unit at 2am. That SUCKED, 4 hours sleep! After working two back to back 16 hour shifts!

THEN staff called out for day shift…only one aide was going to end up working. So I stayed and worked dayshift too.
All in all I worked 2o hours out of 24, and then another 8 on top of that!!! I’m exhausted.

And to make things even WORSE, when I got done at 2pm we stopped at the lake near work…for a quick dip…and guess who we saw?? The staff who freakin called out.

There will be hell to pay. People are getting fired. Enough is enough.
